Kentucky Derby

The oldest continuously held major sporting event in the United States, this is a horse race held annually on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Known as "The Run for the Roses," it is the first leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing and is famous for its traditions, including elaborate hats, mint juleps, and the draping of a blanket of roses over the winning horse.
